In her private life, Rego Park residents are proud to call author Elizabeth Uhlig their neighbor and friend. In her professional life, Ms. Uhlig is devoted to teaching children about the world they live in through magical words and vibrant color. A published author, illustrator and translator of children’s books, most parents are familiar with her inspiring tales; Grandmother Mary; Anna Pavlova, Jewel of the Ballet; Memoir Writing and Illustrating for Children; The Whole World is Dancing; Rainwalk; Children Just Like You; I Want To Be; Before We Met; I See America; What Is It About Doggies?

Her recent release, The Magic Chain, is a rhyming picture book, written with an objective to introduce young readers to the beauty of rhyming poetry. The book, 32 pages and illustrated by Uhlig, uses just a few lines of poetry to teach youngsters interesting scenarios featuring characters of different cultures, and places far, far away. Uhlig created the book using watercolor, collage, and photography.

The Magic Chain is a wonderful read for children and young adults. Snuggle up at bedtime, or read with your youngster in the inviting indoor Children’s playroom at The Alexander – bet other kids will quickly join in – you’ll soon be hearing rhyming sentences around the building.  Kids love to rhyme – it’s fun.  Remember reciting,

“Hickory, dickory dock!
The mouse ran up the clock
The clock struck one
The mouse ran down
Hickory, dickory, dock!”
